Peterhead Port

peterhead port redevelopment

A £49million port redevelopment is underway.

Peterhead Port is now looking ahead to its next chapter, with a £49million investment to ensure it remains at the forefront of the fishing industry for the remainder of the 21st century.

The plans will develop the facility into a fully integrated, state-of-the-are fishing hub by the end of 2017. This includes the construction of a much larger fishmarket, increasing floor space by 50% and providing enhanced opportunities for the display and management of fish, helping fishermen to continue to secure top industry prices.

Within the first five months of 2017 fish and shellfish landings at the Port were worth £75million, with demand outweighing supply the expansion will enable Peterhead to maximise its potential in the fishing sector.

The 18-month project entails the strengthening and deepening of the port, land reclamation with revetment, widening of the harbour entrance, demolition works and improved services throughout.

The harbour will also benefit from significantly improved realignment to the existing quay walls and increased draft which will facilitate larger vessels.

While deepening the harbour, the dredged material will be used to create a 430,000 sq ft reclamation area for future developments, while maximising existing resources and achieving environmental benefits for the scheme.
