Ellon, with a population of 10,000, lies 16 miles north of Aberdeen and is a bustling commuter town on a major bus and infrastructure route.
There are a variety of shops, eateries and bars to relax and spend your day. Of particular note is the river Ythan flowing through the heart of the town on its way to the sea.
The town’s historical significance is based on its situation at the former ford on the river. The banks of the river provide a beautiful walking and cycling environment with a variety of wildlife available to spot.
Ellon Castle, although not currently open to the public, can be seen from various spots around the town and is set close to the magnificent McDonalds woods, a fantastic place for a leisurely forest walk. For those looking for more active pursuits, Ellon has an 18 hole golf course, Meadows Sports complex and a swimming pool, whilst opened in 2015 Ellon Academy Community Campus offers state of the art sport and recreation facilities.
Ellon has a vibrant business community and is seeing major expansion in the North East of the town with international businesses now setting up home. The delivery of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and dualling of the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty will only add to the investment currently being seen in and around the town.
