A large-scale programme of investment in the region’s transport links – local, national and international – is enhancing those connections.
Aberdeen City and Shire already enjoys good road links to the main Scottish and UK centres of population: Edinburgh and Glasgow are under three hours’ drive away.
The Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) is now under construction and will significantly boost local and national connectivity for businesses, while a major upgrade of the main route through the Energetica corridor and will provide greater accessibility to the north and south of Aberdeen.
Air connectivity is continuing to develop markedly. Aberdeen International Airport, located in the west of the Corridor, serves more than three million travellers every year. Around 20 airlines fly to destinations around the UK and Europe, including the hubs of London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris, facilitating quick and simple connections to key business and energy provinces around the world.
There are regular local rail services between Aberdeen and Dyce – a strategically important economic hub for the region, and the location of the airport – as well as to other local communities. Dyce Rail Station offers a frequent service to Inverness, as well as to Glasgow, Edinburgh and London.
Passenger and cargo ferry services operate from Aberdeen Harbour to the Orkney and Shetland Islands off the north coast of Scotland. New passenger and freight ferry connections between Aberdeen and key European locations are proposed as part of Aberdeen's investment in key infrastructure.
