Proposed AECC site

AECC evolves

a project is underway to DELIVER A new state-of-the art venue in aberdeen.

Aberdeen City Council, its development partner Henry Boot Developments (HBD) and main contractor Robertson Construction are in the process of delivering the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) facility at Bucksburn, within the Energetica corridor.

Due to open in 2019, the project will see the creation of a new arena, conference halls, a subterranean multipurpose space, Energy Centre, Hilton and Aloft hotels, car parking and public space. The existing AECC at Bridge of Don will also be redeveloped once the new AECC opens.

The new facility is expected to contribute an additional 4.5 million visitors, £113 million of visitor spend and £63 million net GVA to the Scottish economy.

The new AECC arena will have a maximum capacity of 12,500 and, in conjunction with the conference halls and subterranean multipurpose space, will provide an exhibition space far greater than the current AECC. This will allow it to compete nationally and internationally for new events, as well as by broadening the appeal of the north east to a global audience.

The venue will benefit from great transport links from the historic and thriving city centre, and is on the doorstep of some of Scotland’s finest scenery and heritage in the surrounding area.
